Abstract

Introduction: Smoking is one of the greatest threats to global public health. Within this avoidable tragedy are also passive smokers who inhale tobacco smoke and run the same dangers. The child population is the most vulnerable to this health problem and needs greater protection from an early age to avoid serious pathologies. Objective: To know the impact of the role of nursing in reducing the exposure of caregivers to tobacco smoke in the child population. Methodology: To respond to the objectives, a literatura search was carried out in the databases of PubMed, Cochrane, BVS, Scopus and WOS using a combination of descriptors linked together with the boolean operators OR and AND. Results: After critical Reading, the application of filters and selection criteria reduced the number of articles, to which the CASPe tool was applied to evaluate their methodological quality, choosing 14 articles for review. Conclusion: Nursing interventions in this setting have had possitive effects on the reduction of secondhand smoke in paediatric age, although future lines of research are required.
