This article aims to stimulate the observation of rurality from a comprehensive perspective, attending to the origin of the inequalities between the inhabitants of rural areas and those who reside in urban space. For this purpose, we use the sociological concept of “distinction” by Pierre Bourdieu as an instrument for analyzing various dimensions of the urban-rural relationship. They theoretically raise situations that we consider examples of this, and subsequently, we set out substantial elements of their empirical analysis derived from 20 years of research in the field by the authors.
