El papel de enfermería en la gestión de residuos sanitarios: una revisión integradora

Abstract

Introducción: Los residuos sanitarios suponen un impacto negativo para el medio ambiente a nivel mundial. El personal de enfermería desempeña un papel importante en la gestión y eliminación de los residuos en entornos sanitarios. Objetivos: conocer la eficacia y los beneficios de una correcta gestión de los residuos hospitalarios y los nuevos dispositivos de reciclaje con la importancia de enfermería, respectivamente. Diseño: Revisión integradora Metodología: Se llevó a cabo una revisión integradora de artículos empleando las siguientes bases de datos: Pubmed, Cochrane, Epistemonikos, Scielo, ScienceDirect y Scopus. A continuación, se realizó la lectura crítica de los artículos seleccionados. Resultados y discusión: Se seleccionaron 15 artículos para elaborar el trabajo. La evaluación del conocimiento del personal sanitario acerca del medio ambiente y las medidas que emplean los hospitales, a nivel de gestionar los residuos sanitarios, para poder conocer las intervenciones a reforzar. Para poder intervenir, es necesario conocer las cifras que ofrecen los hospitales y el personal sanitario encuestado. Conclusión: Enfermería tiene un papel importante en la gestión y eliminación de los residuos sanitarios en todos los centros médicos. Los profesionales deben tener la formación adecuada para poder aplicar la metodología adecuada en estos procesos. El papel de enfermería en estas situaciones comienza desde que se utilizan los materiales en la intervención al paciente, hasta que son desechados en sus respectivos contenedores.

Introduction: Medical waste has a negative impact on the environment worldwide. Nursing staff play an important role in the management and disposal of waste in healthcare settings. Objectives: to know the effectiveness and benefits of proper management of hospital waste and new recycling devices with the importance of nursing, respectively. Design: Integrative Review Methodology: An integrative review of articles was carried out using the following databases: Pubmed, Cochrane, Epistemonikos, Scielo, ScienceDirect and Scopus. Next, the critical reading of the selected articles was carried out. Results and discussion: 15 articles were selected to elaborate the work. The evaluation of the knowledge of health personnel about the environment and the measures used by hospitals, at the level of managing health care waste, in order to know the interventions to be reinforced. To be able to intervene, it is necessary to know the figures offered by the hospitals and the health personnel surveyed. Conclusion: Nursing has an important role in the management and disposal of health care waste in all medical centers. Professionals must have the appropriate training to be able to apply the appropriate methodology in these processes. The role of nursing in these situations begins from the time the materials are used in the patient intervention, until they are discarded in their respective containers.
