Violencia machista

Abstract

Gender violence, together with domestic violence, has been and continues to be a serious problem in society, regardless of the country. It is a phenomenon that, far from diminishing, continues to increase. Consequently, it is causing irreparable damage both to the victims and society as it is a criminal act that violates the individuals’ freedoms and fundamental rights. This paper analyses the phenomenon from its most fundamental origins, such as discrimination and inequality against women throughout history, making mention of the feminist movement and how this has meant a change in the fight against patriarchy. Moreover, it also focuses on how this violence is related to the one taking place in the domestic or family environment, being women and the minors involved the victims, as well as the consequences that derive from this.
