Abstract

Lights in the shadows addresses the analysis of the artistic movements of the collection from the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vicente Aguilera Cerni, Vilafamés during the summer of 2015. In addition, it’s also a review of two previous publications with one being the thesis of Beatriz Guttmann and the other, the panoramic approximation of Juan Ángel Carrascosa and Ricardo Forriols. The piece starts with the first works of the 1920s up until the latest additions from the first years of the 21st century. One of the conclusions is that among the most used styles of the collection are informalism, expressionism, lyrical abstraction, constructivism, geometric abstraction, kinetic art, op art, social realism, magical realism, new figuration and even more specifically, the representation of members of postwar groups and collectives such as El Paso, Parpalló, Estampa Popular or Grup d’Elx.
