Abstract

Introduction: Normal childbirth is a physiological process, of spontaneous onset. A process of low-risk childbirth from the beginning to the birth does not imply more intervention than the integral and respectful support of it. There is a wide variety of methods for the control of pain during childbirth, and at present we have seen an increase in the use of non-pharmacological methods to control this pain. Objectives: To analyse the effectiveness of non-pharmacological methods for pain control during labour. Methodology: An integrative review of the literature was carried out in different databases: PubMed, Biblioteca Cochrane, Scielo y LILACs, using a combination of natural and controlled language, limited by inclusion and exclusion criteria. The determination of the methodological quality was obtained using the critical reading tool CASPe. Results: After the selection process was carried out, a total of 17 articles were included. Discussion: There are coincidences between the different authors in which there is an efficacy to control the pain of childbirth with non-pharmacological methods. Conclusion: Both water, massages, acupressure and freedom of movement and positions are optimal non-pharmacological methods to control the pain of childbirth, especially in the first stage, helping dilation.
