Abstract

Introduction. Traditionally, sexuality has been based on a traditional perspective which has complicated live of people. The sexual orientation was one of the most affected dimension by a forced dichotomization. Nevertheless, the real experience seems to be much more complex. Method. The participants filled in a Sexual Orientation Questionary by Salusex-Unisexsida. Their participation was voluntary, anonymous and confidential. Of the total sample, 1000 young people who self-identified as heterosexual were selected. The mean age was 21.22 (SD=2.11), 50% were men and 50% were women. Results. In general, women have higher prevalence in homosexual tendencies, such as having more homosexual fantasies or homosexual desires; in excitation with erotic homosexual material; in homosexual sexual attraction; in behavioral intentions, such as giving kisses, caresses or receiving oral sex. Significant differences were observed in all variables, except for the performance of homosexual sexual behaviors, where 6.6% of women and 4% of men had practiced them (p=0.067). Conclusion. Sexuality is more complex than was traditionally estimated. In line with other research, heterosexual young people show homosexual behaviors in all variables studied, women showing higher prevalence in all of them.
