Del estilo literario al infoentretenimiento. Las desapariciones en la prensa española (1992-2017)

Abstract

Among different types of journalism, current events are distinguished by the interest they arouse in society. One of the key topics in this section is disappearances because in recent years this type of journalism has sharply increased in the mass media. However, despite the fact that disappearances have a larger coverage in the media does not mean that the development of the information is better. The change in the news about missing people can justify my decision to carry out this assignment. The research is conducted by quantitative method that analyses five cases of disappearances that have caused a huge impact in Spain in the last twenty-five years (1992-2017).The study collects the news published during the two weeks after each disappearance in El País, El Mundo and ABC, which are three of the most important newspapers in the Spanish press. Moreover, the information has been complemented with the digital journals El Confidencial and El Español in an attempt to make the closer approach to the current time. Results suggest that media develop the events without having a minimum respect for the intimacy of the people involved in the case. Events are told in a dramatic tone, seeking to be as striking as possible. Consequently, after studying the different factors, it is seen that news about missing people are getting closer to the new trend, known as infotainment.
