La alimentación, función puramente fisiológica que permite la supervivencia del individuo, supone además uno de los primeros y más importantes medios de comunicación con el entorno. La imagen corporal, como representación mental de sí mismos, comienza a ser construida a través de estas primeras experiencias y sensaciones vividas, y nos remite a aspectos de satisfacción e insatisfacción claves para entender los mecanismos de valoración del cuerpo, que inciden en la construcción de estereotipos corporales y en los procesos de socialización de género.
