Abstract

Carner era ja un escriptor consagrat quan va optar per la carrera diplomàtica, l’any 1920. Era considerat el poeta català viu de més estatura literària, escrivia als diaris, havia estat director literari de l’Editorial Catalana, feia conferències i tenia una considerable presència a la vida social i cultural de Barcelona. El seu ingrés al cos consular espanyol va provocar una veritable commoció. A partir de l’ingrés ja no va tornar a viure mai més de forma permanent a Catalunya, tot i que hi va mantenir un contacte estret i fins a la Guerra Civil hi retornava sovint: aquest article documenta amb detall la carrera diplomàtica (i la biografia) de Carner a partir de l’expedient de l’escriptor conservat a l’arxiu del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, i inclou un quadre-resum final amb tots els càrrecs, destinacions i dates d’aquesta carrera.
