Estigmas del andaluz

Estigmas del andaluz

Abstract

Andalusian dialect is a variety of Spanish language, which differs from other varieties of Spain. It has very specific features of sound, which are automatically distinguished between Spanish-speaking people and it has its own particular vocabulary and its own characteristics in syntax. It is spoken in Andalusia, where lots of varieties of this same dialect are found, that is why it is considered to be very diverse. It has had influence in the adjoining regions’ way of speaking (Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia) and it mainly influent when the Latin American dialects of Spanish were formed. In spite of everything, the Andalusian dialect has nowadays such a pejorative image, mostly in Spain, due to the fact that the region is the poorest in the country Andalusians have always been emigrants. I have analysed the perception the rest of Spain and Andalusians themselves have about their own dialect. Andalusian dialect is one of the richest dialects in Spanish and the one a lot of artists made use of. To know the reasons why this dialect is so discredited mostly in public life, I have gathered studies of different dialectologists, journalists and language experts along with my own study and personal view of this situation. This way, I have been able to denounce the discredit caused by lack of knowledge and prejudices. Furthermore, I have given the idea that this dialect can and must be a way of communicating in all of the aspects of society, as well as any other language or dialect.
