Caos, anti-caos e droga: fundamentos empíricos para um modelo biológico da toxicodependência baseado na teoria do caos

Abstract

Os autores partem de um modelo explicativo do fenómeno da droga, em termos biológicos, baseado nas teorias do caos e da complexidade para desenvolverem um estudo empírico, inspirado nessas teorias, onde basicamente foi manipulado um ruído informacional no Sistema Nervoso Central de um grupo de toxicodependentes de heroina, em fase de abstinência, e captadas as respostas desse sistema em termos de indicadores periféricos da activação sub-cortical (actividade eléctrica da pele e ritmo cardíaco). O estudo pretende testar a hipótese de que o Sistema Nervoso Central dos toxicodependentes apresenta um tipo de funcionamento anti-caótico, caracterizado por uma hiperordenação e "cristalização" da estruturação neurofuncional. Os resultados confirmam essa hipótese quando são comparados com um grupo de não toxicodependentes, sendo também explicitada a metodologia de análise dos dados específica para a abordagem laboratorial dos fenómenos caóticos.
