Anterior open bite is characterized by a vertical discrepancy, either dental and/or skeletal. It is easily diagnosed through clinical examination and radiographic assessment. It is well established that oral parafunctional habits may lead to alterations in the growth and development of craniofacial structures. Within this framework of deleterious habits, atypical swallowing due to tongue interposition often emerges. The present dissertation seeks to explore the relationship between anterior open bite and atypical swallowing, emphasizing the biomechanics of the tongue, both in function and at rest, as a potential cause or consequence of this malocclusion.
