Abstract

It is intended, in this text, to demonstrate that one strong relation exists between the growth of the traveller's guides, the increase of the enclosed cartography in these publications and the spreading of the voyages in the "continent", widening the practice of "grand tour" beyond "tourist" on formation. The establishment of peace, the improvement of the roads and of transportation systems, as well as the increase of speed, had constituted immediate reasons for some of the occurred changes that had allowed to promote and to strengthen the pleasure of voyages the long of XIXe century. This epochal scenario as well as some influence of works published in XVIIIe cen-tury, had allowed to feed and to extend the pleasure of voyages for there of the search of the knowledge along this century. This basis conditions had constituted the fundamental element where the precursory processes of the tourism had been firmed, in one very narrow relation with the diversification of guides, authors, pu-blishers, producers of cartography or engravers, in a cycle that perhaps is near the end facing all the technological innovations that turn out obsolete the use of these old partners of voyage. With resource of the information collected about the travel-ler's guides, namely the Baedeker's guides, is produced a short reading, despite elu-cidative, of some of the trends verified as well as of some moments of reference in the use of the cartography with the increases of the publication's numbers.
