Panorama da Exploração de Gás Natural Não-Convencional (Shale Gas) no mundo

Abstract

O desenvolvimento da exploração de gás natural (GN) a partir de folhelho, ou shale gas, foi impulsionado, sobretudo, pelo avanço das técnicas de exploração, levando a uma importante substituição da tecnologia existente. Como consequência, o aumento da produção permitiu a diminuição da dependência energética dos Estados Unidos da América (EUA) assim como a redução do preço do GN, despertando o interesse mundial para a exploração deste recurso. Entretanto, devido aos impactos ambientais associados, a exploração de shale gas está fortemente condicionada ao ambiente regulatório e à política ambiental dos países que possuem reservas. Este trabalho realiza uma breve revisão do processo de extração do shale gas, sendo também discutidos os principais impactos ambientais das etapas de produção. São ainda apresentadas as reservas mundiais de shale gas, o conceito de recursos não convencionais, além do panorama mundial da exploração deste recurso. Finalmente, são discutidas as perspectivas futuras para sua exploração, destacando dificuldades técnicas e aspectos económicos existentes para sua a viabilização da sua exploração.
