Abstract

This paper presents a study of Klingon, an artificial language created for artistic purposes for the fictional universe of the Star Trek series. First, we propose an introduction to the process of creating this design, paying attention to how it goes from a pha se of xenolalia or foreign structured speech to a xenoglossy or authentic extraterrestrial language. Second, we perform a linguistic analysis of this system, 1 Este trabajo se enmarca en el proyecto de investigación FFI2016 - 76702 - P, titu lado En los límites del lenguaje: diseños artificiales y ficciones comunicativas , dirigido por la Dra. Carmen Galán Rodríguez y concedido por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad. taking into account its main phonological, morphosyntactic and lexical features. For this, the exp lanations provided by the author of the language, Marc Okrand, in The Klingon Dictionary and by Moreno Cabrera in Tratado didáctico y crítico de la Lingüística General are taken as references. This study allows us, finally, to observe the importance of nat ural languages in the configuration of the Klingon
