Rachilde met her literary success thanks to her novella Monsieur Vénus. In this novella, Rachilde establishes a relationship between two characters, Raoule de Vénérande and Jacques Silvert, whose sexual roles are reversed. This inversion deals with the break of the binary system (man-masculine, woman-feminine) social and culturally built from heterosexual matrix. The transgression of genre represents an essential element in Rachilde’s literary production and the most recent studies concerning her work, considers this rachildian transgression as an anticipation of the queer theory.
