Abstract

This article aims to analyse the topic of the journey in Lionel Duroy's autobiographical novels and to find out the connections between these novels and Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Confessions. In order to do it, three aspects on this topic are chosen. Firstly, the journey as an initiation rite will be studied in both authors. Secondly, the journey will be associated with the idea of escaping far from life's troubles. Finally, the topic of the journey will be analysed as a way of recovering personal origins and searching for a place to live in. These three aspects illustrate the value of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's legacy, not only regarding the life's transformation into narrative, but also in relation to its ability to question readers artistically.
