In this article we try to define the research in a broad sense and the con-cept of Research System, Development and Innovation (R+D+I), with the explana-tion of the main indicators, the classification systems, also the main characteristics, the production cycle, and the track to examine the scientific and technological documents, their main characteristics and the role that the information professional could develop in this process
