Abstract

This paper reviews first, since a historic point of view, the dimension of the full-time work in some European economies. It achieves the conclusion that the reduction of working hours is not something new at the European economies. Then, the author analyses different ways of reducing the total number of hours worked by each employee pointing out, for each case, the effects over aggregate production, productivity, profits and wages. Finally, this paper studies different ways of financing the reduction of working hours and the willingness of employers and employers about reaching a shorter fulltime work.
