Abstract

The aims of this study were to characterize the floristic diversity and forage production of a natural grassland managed under Voisin Rational Grazing in the Salado Basin. In the “Remanso del Salado” livestock farm located in Castelli, Buenos Aires, Argentina, in December 2019, the floristic composition was measured over 10 sectors (transect plus surrounding area). With this variable, the botanical families, their spatial distribution, the specific richness and the floristic diversity were determined. Forage produc-tion (kg MS/ha) was also measured. The natural grassland presented a high floristic diversity, 14 botanical families, dominating the Poaceae, Asteraceae, Fabaceae and Verbenaceae. The distribution of families was highly heterogeneous. Under the conditions of this study, the natural grassland is predominantly graminous, highly biodiverse, and heterogeneous. Each evaluated sector also has species that, as a com-munity, provide forage in quantity and quality, distributed in each season throughout the year, and with a large contribution of native perennial species
