The need to elaborate a new curriculum for the future primary school teachers and the current demands within the different training areas require a calm and reasoned period of preparation. The synthetic historical view which is given, tries to show the way in which one of the most outstanding problems has focused on the search of a balanced between the academic education and the professional training. It also shows the way in which this debate continues nowadays and to which extent it is absolutely necessary to make a great effort to structure such curriculum. In doing that, it would also be necessary to take into account the students academic and cultural background, to set the training objectives according to the future teachers' professional tasks, the current limited duration of the studies (only three years) and the lack of a compulsory link between the new diplomas and the professional practice within the bounds of the given speciality.
La necesidad de elaborar unos Planes de Estudio de Magisterio y la exigencia de sus diferentes ámbitos de formación, requieren un sereno y razonado proceso. La visión histórica, necesariamente sintética que se presenta, pretende mostrar cómo uno de los problemas más importantes se ha centrado en la búsqueda de una adecuado equilibrio entre formación académica y profesional, de qué manera el debate persiste y hasta qué punto es preciso hacer un gran esfuerzo en la estructuración de los mismos, que necesariamente deberá considerar el bagaje cultural y académico previo, unos objetivos de formación de acuerdo con las funciones que el maestro debe desempeñar, la limitación temporal de la carrera y la no exclusiva vinculación de las nuevas titulaciones al ejercicio profesional en dicha especialidad.
