Esta sencilla aportación forma parte de una investigación que estamos realizando sobre las Colonias Escolares en cuanto instituciones de higiene preventiva en favor de los niños más desfavorecidos. Con ella, pretendemos hacer hincapié en los dos ejes de coordenadas -higiene y pedagogía- en los que se fundamenta el movimiento colonial europeo, nacido en Suiza en 1876. Asimismo, resaltamos, por un lado, la aportación del movimiento higienista al establecimiento de las Colonias Escolares como medio eficaz para remediar el pavoroso problema de una infancia desvalida y abandonada por la sociedad; por otro, el esfuerzo conjunto realizado desde el campo de la medicina y pedagogía en su afán de poder apaciguar estos males. Llevar al campo, al monte, a las orillas del mar a estos niños ha servido frecuentemente para salvarles la vida.

This simple contribution is just a part of an investigation that we are making on school camps as pedagogical institutions of preventive hygiene in favour of the poorets children. With such a contribution, we pretend to emphasize both axes: hygiene and pedagogy, which are the foundation of the European Camp movement, born in Switzerland in 1876. We are also going to show up, on the on hand, the contribution of the Hygienist Movement to the creation of school camps, as a useful means of solving the dreadful problem of helpless children and the ones abandoned by society and, onthe oder hand, the combined effort made by Medicine and Pedagogy, in order to soften all this misfortune. Taking these children to the country, the mountains or the seaside has been very often a way to save their lives.
