El término «Necesidades Educativas Especiales» ha sido aceptado por parte de la comunidad educativa sin haber analizado sus implicaciones sociales y políticas. En este artículo se analizan esas implicaciones y se concluye afirmando que si no se tienen en cuenta dichas implicaciones, la nueva denominación sólo es uno de los muchos intentos que se han dado a lo largo de la historia de la Educación Especial para dar la impresión de que cambia lo sustancial, cuando en realidad lo único que se modifica es lo superficial.
The term "Special Educational Needs" has been accepted by the edcuational community without having analysed its social and political implications. In this article these implications are analysed and the conclusion is that, if these implications are not taken into account, this new denomination will become no more than one of the many attempts that have been made throughout the history of Special Education to give the impression that the essence is changing, when in fact the only change is superficial.
