En este artículo se aborda el optimismo desde una perspectiva descriptiva, partiendo de las diferentes visiones y miradas que nos ofrecen cuatro ensayos sobre el tema, todos ellos interesantes: Optimism, de Hellen Keller (1903), un libro de carácter autobiográfico en el que la autora, sorda, ciega y muda, nos muestra su pasión por la vida; “Candide, ou l’Optimisme” (1759), una fábula irónica en la que Voltaire se burla del optimismo ingenuo; El optimismo inteligente (1998), un ensayo en el que María Dolores Avia y Carmelo Vázquez tratan de acotar el espacio semántico del término optimismo; e Invitación al optimismo (2004), de Miguel Ángel Santos Guerra, un canto esperanzado al poder de la educación. Por último, se hace una breve referencia a los artículos que componen el conjunto de la presente monografía.
This article deals with optimism from a descriptive point of view, focusing on the different views offered by four interesting essays: Optimism by Hellen Keller (1903), an autobiographical book in which the author, deaf, blind and dumb, shows her passion for life; “Candide, ou l’Óptimisme” (1979) an ironic fable in which Voltaire jests at naive optimism; El optimismo inteligente (1998), an essay in which María Dolores Avia and Carmelo Vázquez seek to delimit the semantics of the term optimism; and Invitación al optimismo (2004) by Miguel Ángel Santos Guerra, a hopeful hymn to the power of optimism. Finally, we briefly introduce the articles in this special issue.
