Refeições nas cantinas escolares: relação com antropometria

Abstract

As cantinas escolares têm sido alvo de várias estudos na sua relação com a obesidade infanto-juvenil. Não existe consenso sobre o sentido desta relação, por vezes são mencionadas como exercendo papel preventivo, sendo também frequentemente acusadas da causa desta doença. Estudar a relação entre os dados antropométricos e o local de refeição em estudantes do ensino secundário Estudo com 338 adolescentes, submetidos a uma avaliação antropométrica (peso, estatura, perímetro abdominal e percentagem de massa gorda). Os dados foram correlacionados com o local de refeição dos adolescentes. Os dados obtidos foram tratados estatisticamente com recurso ao software PASW Statistics versão 19. Verificou-se que 43% dos jovens almoçam na cantina e 57% não o fazem. Pode ainda verificar-se que a maior parte dos jovens que não almoça na cantina escolar tem um valor inadequado de classe de percentil, Perímetro Abdominal e % de Massa Gorda. A realização deste estudo vai de encontro a anteriores publicações, que tal como este evidenciam também que a ingestão de refeições excessivamente calóricas influenciam o aumento do Perímetro Abdominal, da % de Massa Gorda e do Percentil dos adolescentes. Os resultados obtidos são concordantes com estudos anteriores que revelam que as cantinas escolares podem ser parte da solução e não do problema na obesidade infanto-juvenil.
