Abstract

O castanheiro é atacado por vários organismos prejudiciais que, pela sua atividade fitófaga, provocam estragos/ prejuízos em diferentes partes da planta. De entre esses organismos, surgem com regularidade e importância económica a vespa-da-galha-do-castanheiro, Dryocosmus kuriphilus Yasumatsu, o bichado-da-castanha, Laspeyresia (= Cydia) splendana e o gorgulho, Curculio (=Balaninus) elephas Gyllenhal (Bento et al., 2007; DGAV, 2017). Com importância secundária ou localizada (pragas secundárias), surgem algumas pragas de lepidópteros como Pammene fasciana L., Cydia fagiglandana Zeller e Zeuzera pyrina L. e o coleóptero Xyleborus díspar F., entre outros insetos e ácaros de menor importância económica. Neste capítulo são descritas com mais pormenor as principais espécies de artrópodes que atacam o castanheiro e a castanha e de forma mais sumária algumas espécies com importância secundária que, em alguns casos, causam prejuízos significativos. Serão abordados aspetos da biologia, sintomatologia, fatores de limitação natural, estragos/ prejuízos, monitorização e os meios de luta disponíveis.
