Ciclos de vida das famílias agrícolas

Abstract

Due to the fact that the portuguese agriculture is mainly based on families’ farming - family/farm systems - they constitute the central units of our study. These units, because of their biological and demographic characteristics, form entities in permanent alteration. Over the time each one covers a cycle of development which is not more than a succession of moments-phase that mark the life of a familiar unit, since its beginning to its dissolution, experimenting, thus, considerable alterations in its dimension, in its age and sexual composition, as well as in its capacities and requirements of its elements, in the relations and roles that they play in the family. The study focuses on the concept of the family’s life cycle, its theoretical interpretations and empirical operation in the scope of the research.
