Sedentarismo: o trabalho e a velocidade

Abstract

O estilo de vida atual, marcado por muitas horas no trabalho, maioritariamente sentadas, com movimentos mecânicos e reduzida atvidade física, leva a comportamentos sedentários (Sánchez, García, Rodríguez & Sanz, 2014), uma das principais preocupações do nosso tempo. O sedentarismo, característico de um estilo de vida pouco ativo e pouco saudável, está associado a várias doenças, sendo considerado um dos maiores fatores de risco da sociedade ocidental. Comportamento sedentário é o termo utilizado para as atividades que são realizadas na posição deitada ou sentada e que não aumentam o gasto energético acima dos níveis de repouso (i.e., ≤ 1.5 equivalentes metabólicos – METs; Meneguci et al., 2015). A cultura do sedentarismo ou do desporto e da atividade física reduzida origina, naturalmente, um declínio da saúde, influenciando a capacidade mental.
