Abstract

A tuberculose é uma doença de noti cação obrigatória que atinge várias espé- cies animais e o homem. A importância dos animais domésticos como reservatórios de micobactérias capazes de infetar e provocar doença grave na espécie humana levou a que se iniciassem programas de erradicação da doença, especialmente em bovinos, baseados numa estratégia de deteção e abate. Contudo, a capacidade dos agentes da tuberculose para infetar outras espécies animais, tanto domésticas como silváticas, pode comprometer o sucesso dos planos de erradicação e representar uma ameaça acrescida à saúde pública. Nos pequenos-ruminantes, espécies animais onde classicamente a infeção era rara, tem aumentado a frequência do isolamento de micobactérias patogénicas. Se nos ovinos apenas são registados casos muito esporádicos, nos caprinos, por sua vez, o número crescente de casos registados exige que seja dada a esta doença uma aten- ção especial de modo que não atinja taxas de incidência alarmantes.
