Doenças pulmonares em pequenos ruminantes

Abstract

As doenças pulmonares são uma causa importante de doença em pequenos ruminantes de todas as idades e raças. Na sua origem estão frequentemente en- volvidas várias bactérias, virus e parasitas que, associados ou isoladamente, quan- do encontram condições ambientais favoráveis (i.e. mau arejamento, sobrelotação, etc), podem causar elevada morbilidade, mortalidade e grandes perdas económicas nas explorações. Como agentes mais importantes podemos destacar as designadas “Pasteurelas” causa de morte súbita em jovens e de pneumonia em jovens e adultos. Muitas vezes estas bactérias aparecem associadas a virus (i.e. Vírus Respiratório Sin- cicial, Virus Parain uenza) ou a micoplasmas contribuindo para o aparecimento de processos respiratórios complexos. Em animais adultos (> 2 anos) alguns virus podem causar, entre outros sintomas, pneumonias crónicas progressivas como é o caso da Maedi nos ovinos e do virus da Artrite e Encefalite Caprina (CAEV). Os parasitas pul- monares normalmente não provocam sintomatologia em pequenos ruminantes, mas em grandes infestações podem causar graves broncopneumonias.
