Plantas tóxicas para ruminantes

Abstract

As plantas tóxicas podem ter um efeito determinante na saúde animal e um grave impacto económico nas explorações pecuárias. Para além da natureza inespecífica dos quadros sintomatológicos, a escassez de informações veterinária e botânica adaptada à realidade do país tornam particularmente difícil o estabelecimento de relações causa efeito entre o consumo de plantas e a doença animal. O presente livro é uma resposta a uma necessidade sentida pela comunidade médica veterinária: o aprofundamento do conhecimento e a integração na prática clínica do efeito da ingestão de plantas tóxicas na saúde dos ruminantes domésticos. De forma atualizada e concisa, tentando escapar ao jargão especializado das ciências veterinária e botânica, os autores procuraram com este livro disponibilizar aos médicos veterinários, e ao público em geral, informação botânica e veterinária útil sobre as principais plantas tóxicas para ruminantes da flora portuguesa, indígena ou naturalizada.
