Peixes diádromos: que importância para os ecossistemas dulçaquícolas, costeiros e marinhos?

Abstract

Os peixes diádromos são aqueles que migram entre os ambientes marinhos/ costeiros e dulçaquícolas para completarem o seu ciclo de vida. A sua importância ecológica e o seu papel relevante na manutenção dos serviços ecossistémicos, prestados pelos ambientes marinhos e dulçaquicolas, devem‐se ao facto de estes peixes funcionarem como veículos de transporte de nutrientes, carbono e energia entre estes ecossistemas. Por outro lado, muitas destas espécies possuem um valor económico considerável, sendo vitais para a economia, não só das zonas ribeirinhas, mas também regional e, por vezes, nacional. Em Portugal ocorrem 11 espécies migradoras diádromas, das quais 7 encontram‐se ameaçadas. No presente trabalho são apresentadas as espécies que ocorrem em Portugal continental. Concomitantemente, são discutidas as principais causas de regressão destas espécies e enumerados os potenciais impactos induzidos pela quebra da conectividade entre ambos os ecossistemas causada, em parte, pela extinção ou pela redução extrema dos efetivos populacionais destas espécies.
