Cuidados paliativos: uma experiência

Abstract

Este artigo trata de um relato de experiência do Grupo de Estudo do Cuidado Paliativo, apresentando sua produção científica, bem como a organização de um núcleo para internação de pacientes que necessitam de cuidados paliativos, junto a uma unidade de internação do Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Discorre sobre o cuidado paliativo, um termo adotado na modernidade para os cuidados necessários em fim de vida que propõem aumentar a qualidade de vida de pacientes e suas famílias, tratando a dor e outros problemas físicos, psicossociais e espirituais que acometem essas pessoas. Apresenta a emergência dessa disciplina e comenta os diferentes modos de abordar a questão da morte e do morrer, tanto na modernidade como na contemporaneidade.

This study reports the experience of the Palliative Care Study Group, presenting its scientific production, as well as the organization of an admission center for patients in need of palliative care at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. It deals with palliative care, a recently adopted term to describe necessary end-of-life care aimed at increasing the quality of life of patients and their families, treating pain and other physical, psychosocial and spiritual problems that affect these people. It presents the emergence of this discipline and comments on the different ways to address the issue of dying and death, both in modern and contemporary life.
