This is a retrospective study of the accidents suffered by the metropolitan railroad workers. Recorded by the railroad medical service between January/1985 and June/1987. The purpose was to study the frequency of accidents according to the kind of activity and to the journey of work. There were 161 accidents distributed with different frequency by the areas and the functions of the workers. The accidents were bigger and stronger in the maintenance area and were smaller in the operating, security and administrative areas. These differences were due to variations in the work conditions. The lengl of work journey increase the risk of accidents.
Este estudo retrospectivo dos acidentes de trabalho dos metroviários, registrados pelo serviço médico da empresa entre janeiro de 1985 e junho de 1987 visa estudar a ocorréncia de acidentes conforme o tipo de atividade e a jornada de trabalho. Houve 161 acidentes, distribufdos conforme áreas e funções dos trabalhadores, sendo mais freqüentes e mais graves na área de manutenção e diminuindo nas de segurança, operação e administrativa. Essas diferenças se devem às variações das condições de trabalho entre as áreas. A duração excessiva da jornada de trabalho aumenta o risco de acidentes.
