Tensões modernistas em Mário de Andrade, Tarsila do Amaral e Raul Bopp

Abstract

This essay analyses some artistic, literary and plastic productions, focusing on socio-historical problems and researching national space, when, in the early years of the 20th century, the colonized dared to face colonizers under equal conditions. Revisiting inaugural movements of Anthropofagic artists and theorists, the objective of this text is to observe the scene of confrontation, the tension of forces, the special moment of rescue carried out by literature in a founding a complex gesture that characterises post-colonial Brazilian art. Thus, modernism emerges as a detonator space of local meanings, and, at the same time, exhibits the evident weaknesses of its symbolic productions.
