O objetivo deste artigo foi descrever a infecção causada por herpes simples através de revisão da literatura mostrando os aspectos clínicos, diagnósticos, prevenção c tratamento. A prevalência desta infecção é muito alta, especialmente do HSV tipo-1. A infecção pelo HSV é doença branda e auto-limitada, mas em pacientes imunodeprimidos, crianças com primeira infecção e em pacientes com infecção no Sistema Nervoso Central ou com infecção neonatal pode ser extremamente séria. Medidas especiais devem ser consideradas na prevenção ou tratamento destas situações.
Herpes simplex is a very important cause of infection in humans. The aim of this review was to describe its clinical features, drugs indicated for its treatments and its prevention. The prevalence of infection is very high, specially in HSV, type 1. Usually, HSV infection is mild and self-limitaded, but in imunodepressed patients, young children with a first infection end in patients with central nervous system infection or nonnatal infections it can be life threatening. Special measures should be considered to prevent or treat these situations.
