Teaching and learning are as old as civilization, if not older. Little change however has happened in the past 800 years as far as university teaching is concerned. The lecture has been the mainstay of engineering teaching since its inception. In recent years evidence of different ways of learning resulting from the existence of different psychological types has surfaced. These learning styles can be inventoried and used by teachers to advantage. This paper briefly describes an experiment in the use of teaching and learning styles by one of its leading proponents and ends by suggesting the use of similar techniques in Engineering courses.
