A prematuridade se constitui num fator de risco para o desenvolvimento neurológico. Apesar desse fato, 80 a 90% das crianças prematuras desenvolvem-se normalmente, desde que não tenham ocorrido eventos que possam comprometer o cérebro no período pré, peri e pós-natal. O objetivo deste artigo é abordar a importância do tema, revisando definições, causas que determinam nascimentos prematuros, patologias peculiares e seus efeitos sobre o desenvolvimento neurológico. Procura-se reforçar a necessidade do seguimento desses recém-nascidos no sentido de, identificando precocemente alterações, interferir no desempenho final, a partir de atitudes adequadas a cada momento.
Prematurity is a important risk factor for the neurologic development. Besides this fact, 80 to 90% of the premature children develops normally, if no pre, peri and post-natal events, wich can compromise the brain, did happened. This paper’s aim is tho address the subjefs importance, to review definitions, etiologies of premature births, singular pathologies and its effects to the neurologic development. Follow-up of these newboms is reinforced, in order to promote erlier disturbance detection, from suitable moment to moment attitudes, wich can influence the final child’s performance.
