A dor é definida como uma experiência sensorial e emocional desagradável decorrente da lesão real ou potencial dos tecidos do organismo. A utilização do cateter peridural é uma das ferramentas mais eficazes para o controle e alívio da dor pós-operatória. Neste artigo, são revistos aspectos anatômicos da coluna vertebral, características do cateter peridural, drogas utilizadas por essa via, cuidados de enfermagem e manejo de efeitos adversos.
Pain is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Use of epidural catheter is one of the most effective tools for acute pain control and relief of postoperative pain. This paper reviews aspects of the vertebral column anatomy, epidural catheter characteristics, drugs used for epidural analgesia, nursing care and management of side effects.
