The purpose of this study is to share experiences in translation and to open up a discussion around the difficulties and the effectiveness of the solutions found. As a theoretical basis, the paper revisits some basic concepts from the field of Translation Studies – such as translation, translation competence, fidelity, equivalence, text functions, and functional unit of translation – which are illustrated with real examples of translation, some of them personal.

O intuito deste trabalho é compartilhar algumas experiências tradutórias e suscitar o debate em torno das dificuldades e da eficácia das soluções encontradas. Como fundamentação teórica, revisita alguns conceitos básicos da área da Tradutologia – tais como tradução, competência tradutória, fidelidade, equivalência, funções textuais e unidade de tradução funcional –, que são ilustrados com exemplos reais de tradução, alguns deles pessoais.
