Abstract

This article presents a critical reflection with the purpose of contributing for the discussions on living with AIDS, under the point of view of chronicity and considering the development of the antiretroviral treatment. It looks at the HIV/AIDS epidemics in the contemporary world, starting from the historical-cultural perspective, through the advances brought about by the technical-scientific development, especially under the scope of the medicinal treatment. It emphasizes the urgent need to substitute the culture that relates this epidemic with death and dying by a culture that considers the daily living with AIDS in a perspective of chronicity.
