Clínica de equinos: encefalomielite parasitária em equinos

Abstract

O exame anátomo-histopatológico revelou áreas multifocais de aderências da dura-máter ao encéfalo e petéquias no córtex cerebral, assim como presença de células inflamatórias, zonas de necrose e presença de larvas de nematodes no encéfalo; #### Abstract: Traineeship report in clinic and surgery of equines This work aims to describe the activities performed during the traineeship, as well as the realization of a monograph and the presentation of a clinical case. In the Chapter I we find the casuistry and in Chapters II and III a literature review and a case of parasitic encephalomyelitis in horses. A case of granulomatous-necrotizing meningoencephalitis associated with nematode larvae was diagnosed in a 14-years-old Irish horse. Clinical examination revealed ataxia, alternate states of depression vs. hiperexcitation, head tilt and support the body to the right side, dorso-medial strabismus, lips twitching, bilateral decrease of cervicofacial and cutaneous reflexes, circling and head pressing. Despite the established therapy, the progressively deterioration of the animal culminated with euthanasia. The anatomo-histopathological examination revealed multifocal areas of adhesions between the duramater and the brain and petechiae in the cerebral cortex, as well as the presence of inflammatory cells, areas of necrosis and presence of larval nematodes.
