Abstract

O Aleitamento Materno (AM) é uma prática com vantagens para a mãe e criança, tendo a maior prazo, implicações na saúde das comunidades. O leite humano é bio-específico, ecológico, fortalecendo ligações afectivas (Walker, 2006). Recomenda a Organização Mundial de Saúde o seu inicio na primeira meia-hora de vida (OMS, 2007). Técnicos de saúde e mães são maioritariamente favoráveis ao AM, mas existe alguma divergência entre a predisposição e comportamentos de manifesto sucesso (Mitra, Carothers & Foretich, 2002; Marinho & Leal, 2004; Coutinho & Leal, 2005). Os resultados da implementação em Portugal estão algo dispersos em estudos locais, supondo-se que está aquém do desejável. Conscientes da sua importância, serão apresentados neste Painel exemplos de percursos de instituições de saúde e perspectivas de formadoras e entidades com responsabilidades na educação e implementação.
