Cirurgia minimamente invasiva: ovariectomia laparoscópica na gata

Abstract

This report is a part of the Integrated Master`s Degree in Veterinary Medicine and is divided in two sections. The first section comprises an analysis of the clinical cases observed by the author during the curricular internship at Vianna Hospital Veterinário. The second section presents a monographic study on minimally invasive surgery, specifically laparoscopic ovariectomy in female cats, followed by the description of a representative clinical case observed during internship and its subsequent discussion. Minimally invasive surgery is an innovative and constantly growing field in veterinary medicine. The increasing demand for these techniques is largely attributed to their numerous advantages over conventional surgical approaches, including reduced surgical trauma, decreased postoperative pain, and shorter recovery periods. However, such techniques are also associated with a steep learning curve and economic constraints, primarily due to the significant investment required in laparoscopic equipment. Laparoscopic ovariectomy is among the most frequently performed minimally invasive procedures in clinical practice.
