Hipoadrenocorticismo canino

Abstract

Apesar de potencialmente fatal, uma vez confirmado o diagnóstico e com tratamento adequado, o prognóstico para cães com hipoadrenocorticismo é excelente; - Canine Hypoadrenocorticism Abstract: Primary hypoadrenocorticism results from an inadequate secretion of both glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids from the adrenal cortices. This is usually a result of immune-mediated adrenocortical destruction. In the so called “atypical hypoadrenocorticism”, the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal cortex is not affected, resulting only in glucocorticoid deficiency. Secondary hypoadrenocorticism results from a deficiency in ACTH which causes impaired glucocorticoids secretion. This endocrinopathy, uncommon in dogs, is highly under looked and difficult to diagnose given the non-specific and unpredictable signs that frequently mimetics other pathologies. Because of this, hypoadrenocorticism is commonly referred to as “the great pretender”. With adequate treatment the prognosis for dogs with hypoadrenocorticism is excellent.
