Sexismo ambivalente e valores pessoais: perspetiva de estudantes do ensino secundário

Abstract

The main objectives of this dissertation are the study of ambivalent sexism and personal values in high school students, taking into account attitudes and stereotypes towards men and women. To carry out this investigation, the Sociodemographic Characterization Questionnaire, the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory, the Ambivalence Toward Men Inventory, adapted by Costa, Oliveira, Pereira & Leal in 2015 and, finally, the Personal Values Questionnaire, readapted by Prioste, Narciso & Gonçalves in 2012. The investigation included a sample of 139 high school students, from three schools in the Alentejo and Médio-Tejo areas. The results indicate that, with regard to sexism, it manifests itself not only towards men, but also towards women, whether in a hostile or benevolent way; that high religiosity and a right-wing political position are strong predictors of sexism and hedonistic personal values, and finally, that both in sexism towards men and sexism towards women, hostile sexism and benevolent sexism are related to values of social power, that is, with values that refer to the need for dominance.
