As medidas preventivas baseiam-se no controlo do vetor, no uso de repelentes/inseticidas e na imunoprofilaxia; - ABSTRACT: CANINE LEISHMANIOSIS This report follows the curricular internship of the Integrated Master's in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Évora, held at the OneVet Hospital Veterinário de Berna, focusing on small animal clinical practice and surgery. The first section covers activities during the fourmonth internship and statistical analysis of the cases observed. The second part consists on a literature review on "Canine Leishmaniasis," followed by the presentation and discussion of a clinical case encountered during the internship. Canine Leishmaniasis is a potentially fatal zoonotic disease transmitted by sandflies and caused by the protozoan Leishmania infantum. The disease is endemic in several countries worldwide, including Portugal. Diagnosis is complex due to the variability and nonspecific nature of clinical signs, characterizing it as a multisystemic disease with a chronic evolution. The treatment aims to reduce clinical signs and control infection. Preventive measures involve vector control, the use of repellents/insecticides, and immunoprophylaxis.
