O presente relatório surge na sequência do estágio curricular do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária, realizado na Clínica Veterinária Militar de Equinos entre o dia um de outubro de 2021 até ao dia um de fevereiro de 2022 A primeira parte deste relatório descreve sucintamente as atividades e casuística acompanhadas durante os quatro meses de estágio. A segunda parte baseia-se no desenvolvimento da temática “Laminite por Síndrome Metabólica Equina”, seguida da descrição de um caso clínico acompanhado durante o estágio. A Síndrome metabólica equina (SME) é uma síndrome complexa e ainda mal compreendida, porém é atualmente definida por consenso clínico como obesidade, insulinorresistência e aumento de suscetibilidade à laminite. A laminite é provavelmente provocada por insulinorresistência associada a predisposição genética impulsionada pela obesidade. O diagnóstico é obtido através da anamnese, exame físico e exames imagiológicos. O tratamento incide no alívio dos sintomas e na redução da progressão da doença; Laminitis due to Equine Metabolic Syndrome Abstract: This report follows the curricular internship of the Integrated master’s in veterinary medicine, held at the Clínica Veterinária Militar de Equinos (CVME) from 1st October 2021 to 1st February 2022. The first part of this report briefly describes the activities and caseload followed during the four months of internship. The second part is based on the development of the theme “Laminitis due to Equine Metabolic Syndrome”, followed by the description of a clinical case followed during the internship. Equine metabolic syndrome is a complex and still poorly understood syndrome, but it is currently defined by clinical consensus as obesity, insulin resistance and increased susceptibility to laminitis. Laminitis is likely caused by insulin resistance associated with a genetic predisposition driven by obesity. The diagnosis is obtained through anamnesis, physical examination and imagiology. Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms and slowing the progression of the disease.
