Abstract

Neste capítulo pretende-se fazer uma análise funcional ao complexo articular do ombro (CAO), numa perspetiva quer da fisiologia articular quer da cinesiologia. O ombro e a cintura escapular, que, em conjunto, formam este complexo articular, são constituídos por várias articulações (glenoumeral; acromioclavicular; externocondroclavicular) e por duas interfaces (escapula-torácica e supraumeral-subacromial), que também participam nos seus movimentos e funções. Existem vários grupos musculares com ações complementares no úmero, clavícula, omoplata e coluna cervicotorácica, mas que são interdependentes e complementares na sua ação. O objetivo principal deste capítulo está centrado na descrição do que cada um destes elementos – articulares e musculotendinosos – fornece para o binómio mobilidade/ estabilidade do CAO. A compreensão dos aspetos funcionais e biomecânicos deste complexo articular permite aos diversos profissionais avaliar com maior rigor clínico as disfunções e patologias existentes, bem como selecionar as melhores estratégias de intervenção terapêutica assentes em evidência científica.
